A spot is a new substance on your rug. Essentially, no one has tried to work on or remove the substance. A spot is much easier to remove because the unwanted substance on your rug is still on the surface. It has not been worked in or “set” like a stain has.

Stains can be old spots or spots that have had time to set. They are more permanent than spots are because of how much time has passed. A stain can be removed with the correct cleaning treatment. Even a stained rug can look as good as new with the proper cleaning agents and methods.

Harsh chemicals and other cleansers react with rugs’ fibers poorly. They dry out the fibers of your rug and change the colors of your rug. While carpet cleaning agents may be suitable for carpets, which are made of synthetic materials and can withstand harsher cleaning methods, Persian and Oriental rugs are made of natural fibers that cannot handle these cleansers. Even if the bottle says the cleaner is safe for rugs, we advise you not to use it.…
