Hand-knotted rugs and hand-tufted rugs are both made by hand, however, the similarities end there. While both rugs can certainly look great and be a fantastic addition to any home, there are many differences in their construction. These differences play into the cost, longevity, and feel of these rugs.

Hand-knotted rugs take a great deal of skill and time to produce. These rugs are created when thousands of tiny knots come together. Each rug is knotted by hand, and the process can take between months and years to result in a ready-to-use rug.

The quality of a hand-knotted rug is determined by the number of knots per square inch (KPI). The higher the KPI, the higher the quality of the rug. Weavers must work many hours per day, for many months straight just to produce one single rug. This plays into the high price of hand-knotted rugs when compared to other types of rugs.

Hand-knotted rugs, because of their construction, are also quite durable. When properly cared for, they can last for decades. Many rugs outlive their owners!
