What is color run on Persian and Oriental rugs and can this be fixed?
Color run or color bleeding is when one color on the rug bleeds through to another color on the rug.
When can major color run occur?
- If after the rug was woven it was not pre washed to release excess amount of dye.
- If it is incorrectly surface washed by a carpet cleaning company.
- During a water leak or flood at your home or storage where the rug gets saturated and stays wet.
Most fine rugs are washed after they are woven but some fine rugs especially Persian Tabriz rugs do not get washed after they are woven so it is very important that you allow Behnam Rugs to test your rug to determine the proper wash your rug needs especially if you do not know if it has been washed before.
During the first time washing of your rug we will stabilize the dyes immediately after the rug gets wet to stabilize the colors. But if your rug has not been washed in a long time 10 to 15, 20 years there is a change for color run on the rug. We suggest having your rug fully hand washed every 4 to 5 years.
